Express

.
.
The YTCA's treasury has been affected by today's economy, just as its members have. One of the
largest expenses each year to the club is the cost of printing and distributing the Express. In 2009
the cost was $10,360.78. The Board does not feel that it would be in the best interest of the
members to raise the membership dues at this time as many other breed clubs have done.
.
In an attempt to reduce these costs and still provide the membership with club news, the YTCA
Board has decided to move the Express to a new format. The Express will now be known as the
E Express. It will be a full color publication and will be distributed to the membership via email.
The E Express will be sent by email free of  charge. A black and white hard copy subscription
may be purchased by members at a cost of $25 per year.
.
Members who reside outside of the United States will pay an additional charge for postage.
The cost of postage to Canada will be a $15 per year. Mexico will cost $20 per year and all
other foreign countries will cost $30 per year. All hard copies, domestic and foreign, will be
mailed first class. The above postage charges will be in addition to the annual dues.
.
The E Express will contain the same information as the Express did and offer more opportunities
for advertising, both for members and businesses. Ad rates and deadlines are quoted below.
Co-Editors for the E Express will be Ken Lambert and Charlie Farrar. If you have questions
about the new publication or wish to make suggestions, please contact
Ken at eexpress2010@aol.com 405-834-3296 or Charlie at evenstaryorkie@peoplepc.com or
Charlie.farrar@chrsolutions.com 806-792-1619.
.
The YTCA Board hopes this change will be embraced by all of its members.  The dues renewal
form will be sent out in May and will include space for providing member information to the
Treasurer so the E Express can be provided to you in whichever format you choose.  Please be
sure to fill out the form completely to insure that you will receive the E Express on time.
.
Due to the change of Treasurer on June 1st and the need to update all members' information
from the dues renewal forms, the first issue of the E Express will not be published until July 15th.
All future issues will be on time.
.
Advertising costs
One page member ad $25.00 - this includes 1 picture, additional pictures are $10 each
1/2 page business ad $75.00 per year and will be included in 4 issues of the E Express
One page business ad $150.00 per year and will be included in 4 issues of the E Express

in litter and contact information   $15.00 Picture with litter announcement $10.00 per picture.
Business Card insertions $20.00 per year and will be included in 4 issues of the E Express
Regional clubs get one free ad a year to advertise their specialty
E-version for advertising will be color and the hard copy will be black and white.

Final approval of advertising is made by the Board.

ROBERTA J. ROTHENBACH

MEMORIAL  FUND

Due to the extreme generosity of donors, the Roberta J. Rothenbach Memorial
Scholarship Fund would like to make some changes for the benefit of even more
of our YTCA members.
In order to better serve our membership, we are expanding the offer of scholarships for

“immediate family” to include nieces and nephews of a current member.  We will also

consider a former recipient of the award eligible to reapply in following years, however,

their application will be considered  after new applicants.

In addition, we are exploring more avenues to make funds available to

members. Roberta loved this breed, was proud to be a member of the National

club, and treasured the many friends she made.  It would be her wish to have these

funds utilized exclusively by YTCA members.

Henceforth this fund will be called The Roberta Rothenbach

Memorial Fund.

Thanks to all of you for your continuing support of this fabulous effort!!!

Deadline for receiving the application and essay is May 30th

A scholarship will be awarded one time only to any individual.

Scholarship applications may be resubmitted annually.

Note: No applications will be held for review in subsequent years.

Mail completed application and essay to:

Questions to the Board

Dear YTCA Members,

Any questions you would like to have answered by the Board must be sent to the YTCA Secretary, Bob Owen.
They must be in hard copy format and be sent by USPS mail.

The address is:
Yorkshire Terrier Club of America
P.O. Box 6204
Elizabethtown, KY 42702

When received each question will be reviewed by the Board and an answer will be drafted. If a question asked
is concerning a specific committee then the Board will consult with that specific committee chair.  The answer
will be posted on the YTCA Official Notice list, on the YTCA Website's Bulletin Board and in the YTCA Express.

We are anxious to get the requested information out to the members so as soon as our Secretary receives the
questions we can post the answers.

Thanks in advance,

Officers and Board members of the YTCA

SUNSHINE COMMITTEE

YTCA Annual Sunshine Remembrance

YTCA will make an annual donation to our Donor Advised Fund, YTCA Rescue,
YTCA Foundation or another charity chosen by the Board dedicated in sympathy
for any and all members and/or their Yorkies who were ill or who died during the
year. The remembrance would not list each and every member or dog name but,
instead would be all encompassing as an expression of general sympathy.

Constitution and By-Laws committee

Dear Members,

We are pleased to announce the following YTCA members have accepted the
Board's request to take on the responsibility of a formal review of the Club's
Constitution and By-Laws.  The makeup of the committee brings many years
of experience working for the Club in various key positions which allows them
to have worked with the current By-Laws and have insight in what works and
what might be changed to better serve the Club and the membership.

The committee is as follows:

Shirley Patterson - Chairman  (Past Secretary - Current Vice-President)
Carol Confer  (Past Board Member)
Nancy Donovan  (Past Vice-President - Past President)
Robert Franzoni  (Past Board Member - Past Treasurer)
Jennie Schull-Wright  (Member in good standing for 11 years)

YTCA  FUNDS  GRANTS

The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America is pleased to announce they are helping to “raise the bar” in the fight
against canine disease.  The Officers and Board of Directors recently voted to support the funding of the following
grants that will be matched by the AKC Canine Health Foundation for a total of $21,000.

$2,500 for Grant No. 908  Serotonin Type 2A Receptor Antagonist Therapy for Preventing the Progression
of Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease, Mark A. Oyama, DVM, DACVIM, University of PA.

$1,000 for Grant No. 1160-A  Development of Contract-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Angiography for the
Diagnosis of Congenital Vascular Liver Disease in Dogs, Wilfried Mai, DVM, PhD, University of PA.

$7,000 for Grant No. 963  Genotyping Small Breed Dogs with Portosystemic Vascular Anomalies and
Microvascular Dysplasia, Sharon A. Center, DVM, Cornell University.

These grants will help improve the health of the Yorkshire Terrier.  They were peer reviewed for methodology
and significance with a focus on keeping costs at a minimum.  They have received appropriate scientific scores
ranging in categories from intellectual quality to the overall merit of the study.  Funds for these grants come
from the YTCA Donor Advised Fund.

Disqualification Directive

TO: AKC Judges, AKC Judging Operations
FROM: Yorkshire Terrier Club of America Board of Directors
DATE: September 26, 2007

SUBJECT: Clarification of the Yorkshire Terrier DQ to be initiated on
October 1, 2007

The Disqualification reads as follows:
Any solid color or combination of colors other than blue and tan as
described above.
Any white markings other than a small white spot on the forechest
that does not exceed 1 inch at its longest dimension.

=============================================================
DIRECTIVE;
The new Disqualification is an ADDITION to the Yorkshire Terrier
Breed Standard. It is there to disqualify Yorkshire Terriers with
colors OTHER THAN those as described in our Breed Standard. The
American Kennel Club is registering parti-colors, solid colors, and
chocolate and tan dogs as Yorkshire Terriers even though they do not
meet our Breed Standard as written. AKC will not deny registration on
color alone. These dogs have been shown at AKC matches and non-AKC
events. Immature dogs not having a totally clear tan or immature dogs
that are not yet totally blue are acceptable under our Breed Standard
and should NOT be disqualified. To do so would be a misinterpretation
of the Disqualification AND of the Breed Standard.

The Yorkshire Terrier whose coat is of prime importance has a slow
metamorphosis from the black and tan puppy to the blue and tan adult.
Some of these dogs take three or more years for their coat to mature;
therefore our YTCA Members chose NOT to specify an age for color
maturity. Only dogs of solid color, unusual combination of colors,
and parti-colors should be disqualified.

In summary:

DISQUALIFY
„X Solid color dogs such as a solid color gold or solid color chocolate
„X A chocolate and tan dog or other unusual combination of colors
„X A white dog with black and tan markings (parti-color)

DO NOT DISQUALIFY
„X Puppies, Class dogs and young Champions whose tan has not yet
totally cleared. This is typically seen around the head area where
thumb prints may exist. Young Puppies may still have an intermingling
of black hair in the tan.
„X Puppies and young adults whose black body coat has not yet totally
turned to blue.
„X A dog that has a small white spot not to exceed 1 inch on the fore-
chest.

A Blueprint or Guide (Illustrated Discussion) as to what the Parent
Club considers to be the correct Yorkshire Terrier can be obtained by
contacting the club secretary.(Address above) You may also check our
